ABOUT

Located in the heart of LA’s Studio City neighborhood, SoHo Labs is a professional recording & production space. It opened its doors to the public in the Fall of 2024.

Its owner, Sophie Fay, is a producer, engineer, songwriter, and artist originally from New York City. In 2022, she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Audio Production & Engineering from the City College of New York and later pursued a Master’s in Arts Management & Entrepreneurship from the New School, graduating in May 2024. With over seven years of experience, Sophie’s skillset is highly diverse, making her the perfect collaborator. Her primary genres of focus include R&B, Hip Hop, Alternative, Afrobeats, Amapiano, House, and Pop.

Here’s a brief summary of her skills:

  • Beats: create beats on Logic Pro X & harmony loops on Ableton Live. Individual beats are available for lease/purchase on BeatStarz. The most recent beat packs are linked here.

  • Production: for more advanced and specialized projects, Sophie works with artists to create a unique music bed for their ideas. Whether you just have a melody sketch in your voice memos or an already structured song idea, she will help you articulate your feelings sonically.

  • Vocal Production: coming up with adlibs & harmony stacks; directing the artist in regards to vocal performance.

  • Songwriting: writing songs in a variety of genres individually or collaborating with the artist.

  • Vocal Tuning: manual tuning in Melodyne

  • Engineering: tracking final / demo vocals into Pro Tools or Logic Pro X, using uniquely picked out settings on the Avalon Multi-Channel Strip & Distressor Compressor hardware unit. The microphone that’s used for all the recordings is nothing less but the pioneer, Neumann U-87.

  • Instruments: voice, electric guitar, piano, percussion.

  • DAWs: Logic Pro X, Pro Tools, and Ableton Live.
